Homes are now equipped with appliances of various sorts, such as television sets, laundry machines, or even robotic vacuum cleaners. Each of these appliances comes with its own remote control and/or a built-in control interface. However, these control interfaces often offer confusing layouts with lots of buttons and tiny displays. Therefore, setting up desired parameters is not always a simple task. Moreover, the difficulty of using an appliance’s functionality not only comes from the layout of its remote control itself but also from the limited feedback that it traditionally delivers. In this project, we looked into a technically novel approach to control home appliances, using an Android smartphone device.
